Cambridge Dial a Ride Maintains Service Despite NHS Cuts

Under pressure from a new round of cuts the NHS has been unable to continue with its funding grant to Cambridge Dial a Ride. Despite this we have pledged to continue our service to members using NHS facilities; these include trips to day centres, doctors and hospital appointments as we understand that the local NHS has difficult choices to make. We will have to look to our longer term funding going forward for our charity.

We are a Cambridge based charity transporting those with mobility issues and unable to use normal public transport or taxi services. After 4 years of holding our fares static we have now been forced to increase them due to rising costs and in the case of NHS, withdrawal of all funding. We will endeavour to keep this increase as modest as possible.

Says Chairman Bill Hughes, “We have been in operation for over 24 years and we are dependent on our 7 paid staff, our volunteers and our funding partners to keep going. Whilst we operate as efficiently as possible, we are looking for increases in both public and private support for our much needed services. We are initiating a new programme to ensure we are able to renew our fleet of specially equipped minibuses and looking for new sponsors and donors.
