Trustee Linda Takes to the Skies

Linda Mills CDAR’s much loved and longest serving volunteer and Trustee, has recently completed a lifelong ambition by taking to the skies for the Charity.

Not content with booking a Business Class or even an Economy seat, Linda bravely climbed up and perched onto the wings of a Stearman bi-plane to complete a Wing Walk at between 100 and 700ft up in the air down in Ashford in Kent.

Says Linda “It has always been an ambition of mine to complete a Wing Walk, having spent many hours flying with my pilot husband Brian in his bi-plane, however he always thought it was too dangerous for me to do!  Having lost my husband to Parkinson’s Disease just over 2 ½ years ago, I decided that I really wanted to fulfil this ‘Bucket List’ wish and thought if I could do it whilst raising funds for CDAR at the same time, that would make it really worth it and push me to get on and do it”.

The Wing Walk was initially planned for Spring last year but it was continually getting cancelled due to weather conditions or problems with the plane, so Linda’s trip has been a long time coming to fruition.

Linda continues – “It was an incredible experience, and I would l would like to thank my family, friends, CDAR colleagues and the lovely Members who have not only supported me on this journey but kindly donated to my fundraising goal.  I have now raised over £1500 for the Charity, which will go towards keeping our fleet of buses running and enable us to continue to offer a great service to our members who truly rely on us to get them to their appointments and social activities in and around Cambridge”.

Adds Bill Hughes, Chairman – “we are incredibly proud and grateful to Linda for taking on this challenge as well as her long standing volunteering service with CDAR.  Linda not only drives one of our buses, but she is also a Trustee and Director with the Charity, and we appreciate everything she does for us.  Raising these funds for CDAR have really helped us with ever rising costs and all sponsorships and donations are greatly needed for us to continue our much-loved service”.

Linda’s CDAR JustGiving Page has unfortunately now closed, however if you would still like to congratulate Linda and donate, please visit the CDAR Website at www.cambridgedialaride.org.uk where you can donate via the Charity’s JustGiving Link which you will find on the Homepage – Thank you.
