These services apply if you live in Cambridge or the villages of Girton, Milton, Teversham or Sawston.
We can take you to the main shopping areas in Cambridge, where we can link up with Cambridge Shopmobility if you need help getting around the city centre shops or in the Grafton Centre. Please let us know if you need this service when you book a journey.
We can drive you to visit friends or relatives and to doctors’ or dentists’ surgeries or health centres or to a hairdresser’s appointment. At present we do offer transport to outpatient hospital appointments but we are unable to wait to bring you home. Many people also use the service to go to day centres or community groups in and around the city.
You can either choose a return or a single journey depending upon your personal plans. When you call to book a journey, please tell us at what time you would like to travel out or to return home, and we will make every effort to offer the times you require.
We also collect shopping groups from local areas to travel to the big food supermarkets in the city at the following times on the following days:
Monday (every other week): Milton
We take two groups of Milton residents to Tesco’s supermarket in Milton. This has been arranged by Milton Parish Council.
Tuesday (weekly): Central and North Cambridge
We take three groups from central Cambridge and north Cambridge to Tesco’s supermarket in Milton. We begin to collect separate groups at around 9am, 10am, and 2pm.
Thursday (weekly): Cherry Hinton and Chesterton
We take two groups from Cherry Hinton and from Chesterton to Sainsbury’s supermarket in Coldhams Lane. We collect two separate groups from around 9.30am.
Friday (weekly): Trumpington and South Cambridge
We take two groups from Trumpington and from the south of Cambridge to Tesco’s supermarket in Cherry Hinton/Fulbourn. We collect groups from Trumpington from around 9am and from the south of Cambridge from around 10am.
Shopmobility is a scheme that provides powered scooters and wheelchairs to help those people with limited mobility. There is also an escort service available for wheelchair users and the visually impaired. This is for a 2 hour period Monday to Friday between 10am and 4pm. There are two offices for shop mobility.
The Grand Arcade 01223 457452 and The Grafton Centre 01223 461858. There is no charge for using the service but you will need to have positive identification of name and address before a mobility aid is issued.
To ensure availability of a suitable aid the Mobility Centre should be phoned to book one. CDaR will do this on your behalf if required when you book your journey.
The CDaR driver will phone ahead on the day to ensure it is available when you arrive
